Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, human services or recreation from an accredited institution and minimum one year supervised experience working with school age children in a group setting
- or Associate’s degree in related field and minimum two years supervised experience working with school age children in a group setting
- Ability to work approximately 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 12:30pm to 6:30pm
- Completion of a minimum of 20 hours training per year relevant to school age child care
- Valid certifications or licenses as mandated by state licensing agencies
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to manage staff and oversee program logistics
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with children and adults
- Positive role model with strong leadership, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills
- Capable of directing daily administrative, program related and supervisory responsibilities
- Obtain required certifications including Child Abuse Prevention Training, New Employee Orientation, RI DHS and MA EEC requirements
- Complete YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills certifications such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen within the first 60 days of hire
- Ability to respond effectively to safety and emergency situations
Job Duties
- Plan, supervise and implement a high-quality, creative program that is age-appropriate for school-age children
- Plan and execute daily and monthly activities that are academically aligned and support skill building and social-emotional development
- Develop, plan and supervise activities during school vacation weeks and other days off
- Collect and maintain data on participants growth, including pre/post tests, SEL assessments and other data metrics
- Provide direction and guidance to the program staff and complete written evaluations
- Promote the values of inclusion and equity
- Supervise and demonstrate positive behavior management techniques with children
- Create systems and processes for staff coverage, data collection, recruitment and retention
- Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements and maintain all necessary records
- Oversee the maintenance of equipment, work and play areas, and inventory of supplies and snacks
- Plan and attend programs and events for parents and families
- Manage food service including meal preparation and compliance with nutrition program requirements
- Foster team concept through positive supervision and communication
- Ensure proper procedures for vehicle use
- Participate and volunteer in YMCA fundraising campaigns
- Act as a professional role model with positive public relations
- Enhance professional development through workshops and trainings
- Perform other duties as assigned
