Job Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess a high-school diploma or equivalent
- Complete Child Abuse Prevention Training before starting work
- Complete New Employee Orientation before starting work
- Meet all Rhode Island Department of Human Services and Massachusetts Early Education and Care requirements before starting work
- Obtain YMCA approved CPR, First Aid, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications within 60 days of hire
- Complete Rhode Island DHS Pre-service Health and Safety Training within 60 days of hire
- Demonstrate ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
- Exhibit professionalism and positive demeanor in representing the YMCA
- Show commitment to teamwork and community values
Job Qualifications
- Must be 18 years old and have a high-school diploma or equivalent
- Certifications required before working with children include Child Abuse Prevention Training, New Employee Orientation, all RI DHS and MA EEC requirements
- Certifications to be obtained within the first 60 days of hire include YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen, RI DHS Pre-service Health and Safety Training
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
- Commitment to professional development and ongoing training
Job Duties
- Collaborate with Site Coordinator in planning and leading a high-quality, creative program that is age-appropriate for school-age children
- Assist in planning daily and monthly activities for the program that are academically aligned and support skill building and social-emotional development
- Supervise and be actively involved with children assigned to your activity area ensuring their health and safety at all times
- Provide leadership for activities such as sign-in, circle time, enrichment activities, asset development, games and crafts
- Promote values of inclusion and equity among all participants
- Assist Site Coordinator in creating and planning special events including parent and family-oriented programs and attend such events
- Attend and participate fully in monthly staff meetings including training programs
- Care for and help with maintenance of equipment and site appearance including daily clean-up and scheduled maintenance
- Provide daily snacks or meals in accordance with federally funded child nutrition program requirements
- Treat all children with dignity and respect and follow discipline procedures as outlined by YMCA Code of Conduct and the Site Coordinator
- Continue pursuit of professional development through reading and further education
- Help supervise program in Coordinator's absence
- Engage in behavior conducive to team building with other staff fostering open communication, encouragement, support and tolerance
- Participate and volunteer in YMCA annual fundraising campaigns
- Act as a professional role model maintaining good public relations with parents and school personnel
- Perform other duties as assigned
