Job Requirements

  • 2 3 years of professional cooking experience
  • Strong knowledge of West African and Soul Food cooking techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tickets simultaneously
  • Culinary school education preferred but not required
  • Excellent sense of flavor, spice balance, and creativity
  • Strong communication skills and team leadership ability
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook authentic West African dishes including Nigerian jollof rice, egusi soup, suya, pepper soup, Ghanaian waakye, shito, groundnut soup, Cameroonian ndol, poulet DG, eru soup, Togolese akume, gboma dessi, grilled fish with pepper sauce
  • Cook and plate soul food dishes including fried chicken, smothered pork chops, catfish, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, and cornbread
  • Develop and execute Afro-Fusion dishes blending African flavors with soul food comfort such as suya fried chicken, jollof and mac combo, puff puff banana pudding
  • Maintain high standards for taste, presentation, and consistency across all menu items
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal specials, and recipe standardization
  • Manage kitchen prep lists, food rotation, and portion control to reduce waste
  • Supervise kitchen assistants and line cooks during prep and service
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health codes
  • Collaborate with management to achieve food cost targets and maintain kitchen efficiency
  • Support catering events and community food promotions as needed
