Job Requirements

  • education - high school diploma or equivalent or post high school degree
  • one (1) year experience as a pharmacy tech
  • certified pharmacy tech with the State Board of Pharmacy

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • one year experience as a pharmacy technician
  • certified pharmacy technician with the State Board of Pharmacy
  • knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
  • possess good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills
  • knowledge of State BOP/Dept of Health/DEA rules/regulations

Job Duties

  • perform all technician functions specific to the space that the pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting
  • hazardous compounding as a significant portion of scheduled shifts
  • interpret and prepare medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits/trays, automated dispensing cabinets, and floor stock requisitions
  • handle all controlled substances in compliance with regulations and policies
  • demonstrate proficiency with work-related computer and automation skills through problem solving for automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management technology, label printers, unit dose packing machines, IV room automation, and other pharmacy-specific technologies
  • contribute to the financial and operational well-being of the institution through management of inventory systems both perpetual and manually maintained
  • provide excellent customer service including answering the phone promptly, servicing the pharmacy window in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, and being prepared to start work at the beginning of each shift
  • participate in training of new personnel and mentorship of new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns
  • create patient profiles in multiple software systems
  • conduct benefits investigations on all specialty prescriptions
  • assist pharmacists with prior authorizations/appeals
  • clarify orders with pharmacist and/or providers as necessary
  • coordinate initial fills and refills for all specialty medications
  • educate patients/caregivers to specialty pharmacy services
  • facilitate/schedule delivery of medication to patients (home delivery or intercampus courier)
  • document progress in various software platforms
  • follow up with office practices and/or patients to ensure receipt of medication
  • order and maintain inventory of medications as needed
  • comply with all established policies/procedures for medication concierge program workflow to support discharges
  • create a pharmacy-driven program working through medication access barriers prior to discharge
  • refine discharge medication assessment opportunities
  • aid in auditing and compliance of the 340B program focused on mixed-use settings
  • act as liaison between the 340B program leadership and site level leadership
  • participate in site visits and discussions for new 340B sites
  • provide system and automation support roles such as informatics support, automated dispense cabinet support, billing/charging support
  • support education and training of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians within area of expertise
  • maintain excellent customer service skills communicating with stakeholders including patients, caregivers, office staff, prescribers, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, industry support, payors and payor support agents
  • participate in quality assurance/performance improvement projects
  • adhere to regulatory guidelines for sterile and non-sterile compounding
  • contribute to and support pharmacy enterprise activities
  • perform other duties as assigned
