Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Entry level to three years experience in infusion or admixture area or pharmacy
- Ability to perform calculations for dosage volumes
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation protocols
- Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 40 lbs
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Willingness to work in an environment exposed to potentially hazardous substances
- Ability to work under supervision and follow established procedures
- Commitment to quality and accuracy
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Up to three years experience in infusion or admixture area or pharmacy
- Knowledge of medication preparation procedures
- Familiarity with OSHA guidelines related to medication admixture
- Ability to perform calculations for dosage volumes
- Basic data entry skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Understanding of quality assurance processes
- Ability to work under supervision and as part of a team
Job Duties
- Assist with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a pharmacist
- Check all orders for completeness of information and verify patient information and proper physician authorization
- Admix drugs as ordered by physician under direct supervision in an accurate and timely manner following departmental and OSHA guidelines
- Calculate correct dosage volumes and convert between metric and apothecary equivalents
- Assist in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records
- Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs
- Assist in cleaning hoods daily, checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities
- Keep accurate temperature logs and logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs
- Maintain proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers
- Provide support with inventory control of medications, prepare labels, file and prepare billing, enter basic data into department automation, and order medication and supplies as directed
- Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and pharmacy department to minimize particle counts and improve sanitation
