Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Entry level to three years experience in an infusion/admixture area or pharmacy
- Ability to perform technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation
- Ability to calculate correct dosage volumes and convert metrics
- Knowledge of proper handling and disposal of chemotherapy drugs
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
- Capability to assist with cleaning and sanitation of admixture areas
- Ability to comply with safety and OSHA guidelines
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Willingness to work in an environment with potential exposure to toxic substances and chemotherapeutic agents
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Entry level to three years experience in an infusion/admixture area or pharmacy
- Knowledge of pharmacy admixture procedures and safety guidelines
- Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately
- Basic math skills including dosage calculations
- Familiarity with OSHA standards for medication preparation
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team
Job Duties
- Assist with preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a pharmacist
- Check all orders for completeness of information and verify patient information and proper physician authorization
- Admix drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner within department and OSHA guidelines
- Calculate correct dosage volumes and convert between metric and apothecary equivalents
- Assist in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records
- Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs
- Assist in cleaning hoods daily and check drugs monthly for outdates and perform other quality assurance activities
- Maintain proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers
- Provide support with inventory control of medications
- Prepare labels, file, and prepare billing
- Enter basic data into department automation systems
- Order medication and supplies as directed
- Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and pharmacy department to minimize particle counts and improve sanitation
