Job Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- experience verifying insurance required
- 1 - 3 years of experience working in an admissions or related department required
- phone/switchboard and typing/computer skills required
- professional interactions with individuals
- customer service focused individual with strong communication skills
- ability to multi-task and problem solve required
- BLS CPR required
Job Duties
- Verification of all insurances online and by phone
- documentation and understanding of eligibility, co-pays, deductibles, and pre-existing terms
- distribution and explanation of such information to Intake Coordinators and others as necessary
- answer the switchboard in a highly professional manner
- direct all phone calls to the appropriate department or staff
- assist callers with inquiries and transfer to proper departments
- proficiently conduct the admission process with patients and/or families
- explain admission forms empathetically and procure signatures
- process, copy, and distribute all forms to appropriate departments
- document in patient records the provision of Patient Rights Booklet and Advance Directive information
- compile and compute accurate admissions and discharge data on daily census sheets and distribute
- enter and delete admission and discharge information into the computer program
- maintain and update the admission board for evaluations and appointments
- receive and distribute mail
- maintain and operate postage machine and posting of outgoing mail
- maintain admitting area machines and call for service when required
- greet the public and direct to appropriate staff or departments
- attend mandatory hospital trainings and in-services
- follow hospital expectations regarding time and attendance
- perform related duties as assigned by manager
- represent the facility professionally and courteously
- maintain confidentiality
- exhibit excellent service skills with patients, visitors, and coworkers
- comply with facility and safety policies
- promote a safe work environment
- maintain a neat professional appearance
