Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year certificate from an accredited college or technical school or one to two years of guest/customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong cash handling skills
  • Ability to work a seasonal, non-standard/flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group situations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
  • Possess a professional and positive attitude in a stressful environment
  • Enjoy working with and serving diverse clientele
  • Live and work in Washington State
  • Be at least 18 years old

Job Duties

  • Perform day-to-day operations of on-grounds paid experience locations such as greeting and directing visitors, assisting guests with questions or complaints, promoting and selling zoo products and experiences, and maintaining an appropriate work area
  • Provide information to the public in person or on the phone, including but not limited to zoo hours, prices/fees, regulations, programs, exhibits, special events, classes, directions, lost and found items, and the zoo animals
  • Provide on-grounds customer service presence
  • Rectify visitor disputes, complaints, and issues or escalate to lead if appropriate
  • Interact with and assist visitors of all ages, expedite visitor entry, establish queuing lines, and help with crowd control in a customer friendly manner
  • Operate cash registers or point of sale (POS) terminals, handle payment exchanges, maintain a cash drawer, and complete daily paperwork
  • Rent and maintain strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and umbrellas
  • clean equipment after use
  • Facilitate operations of on-grounds paid experiences such as carousel, public animal encounters, and travelling exhibits
  • Promote and sell zoo products and experiences
  • Set-up, organize, and arrange any necessary equipment or program items
  • Support zoo policies in a professional manner
  • Ensure a safe environment for visitors, staff and volunteers
  • monitors key areas and entrances and reports safety concerns to a supervisor in a timely fashion
  • Communicate on-site issues or ideas for improvements regarding customer service, personnel, policy or other related areas
  • Maintain all assigned workspaces by keeping them clean and organized
  • Perform breaks if necessary and assists other Admissions units with related projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
