Job Description

San Diego State University (SDSU) University Relations & Development is an established department within SDSU that focuses on fostering alumni engagement, supporting university initiatives, and coordinating events that strengthen the SDSU community. The Alumni Center, a prominent venue under this department, hosts over 200 events annually including receptions, meetings, and university functions in multiple versatile spaces. SDSU University Relations & Development plays a critical role in uniting past and present students, university staff, and external partners through well-orchestrated events and activities that promote collaboration and the university’s mission.

Job Requirements

  • Candidate must reside in California within commutable distance of SDSU
  • clear background check including criminal record
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays
  • capable of physical labor such as lifting and standing for long periods
  • willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • legal authorization to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4-years of progressively responsible experience in an office or administrative environment
  • strong problem-solving abilities with sound judgment
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • detail-oriented with strong time management skills
  • eagerness to learn and grow
  • self-motivated with minimal supervision
  • ability to interpret and communicate policies
  • experience in hospitality or event-related environment preferred
  • experience coordinating meetings or special events preferred
  • experience with audiovisual equipment preferred

Job Duties

  • Independently coordinate logistical aspects of events
  • respond to event-day issues in real-time using reasoning and judgment
  • serve as primary point of contact for clients and vendors
  • provide on-site support during events ensuring seamless execution
  • coordinate and assist with event setup and breakdown
  • foster collaboration within the team and guide staff
  • coordinate with vendors to support event logistics
  • develop event layouts and diagrams
  • set up and operate audiovisual equipment
  • support special projects and cross-functional initiatives
