Job Duties

  • Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations
  • Operate and safely drive a school bus in various weather, road and traffic conditions
  • Communicate bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers and address improper behavior
  • Communicate with students' parents to resolve inappropriate or unsafe behavior
  • Assist students boarding and unloading the bus, including those with wheelchairs and adaptive equipment
  • Inspect buses daily for deficiencies and perform routine maintenance such as fluid and fuel level checks and tire pressure inspections
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort
  • Comply with federal, state, and district rules and traffic regulations related to school bus operation
  • Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Complete all records and reports timely and accurately
  • Read maps and follow route or trip logs
  • Operate two-way radio
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bus
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
