Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- one year of successful experience in activities/therapeutic recreation with geriatric population preferred
- experience working with frail or elderly population
- ability to plan and host events
- knowledge of recreational therapy techniques for elderly
- strong communication skills
- ability to encourage participant choice and socialization
- medical clearance and up-to-date immunizations
- physical ability to lift up to 15 pounds and perform frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling
- flexibility in work schedule
- may require use of personal vehicle
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- one year of demonstrated successful experience in activities or therapeutic recreation related services with geriatric population preferred
- one year of documented experience working with frail or elderly population
- experience planning and hosting events
- knowledge of activities/recreational therapy techniques and practices for the elderly
- working knowledge of physical, psychological, and behavioral needs of the elderly
- demonstrated creative abilities to plan, develop, and implement varied activities
- effective oral and written communication skills
- ability to encourage participants to make choices and engage in positive socialization
- medically cleared for communicable diseases with up-to-date immunizations
Job Duties
- provides input to activities coordinator(s) regarding participant engagement and utilization of recreational activities
- assists with tracking of participant activity preferences and utilization of activities or services
- assists activities coordinators to carry out group and individual activities addressing cognitive, physical, social, psychosocial, spiritual, and artistic needs
- coordinates exercises, arts and crafts, celebrations, special events, recreational games, cognitive groups, and community outings
- provides direction to other staff regarding daily activity center activities and supports rollout of diverse activities for participants with cognitive impairments
- assists with daily flow of quiet room activities area and organizes activities inventory
- supports participant choice by assisting with satisfaction surveys focused on activities
- maintains confidentiality of participant information
- assists in supplies inventory and reports requisition needs
- helps conduct daily safety and equipment assessments to reduce barriers
- provides input for monthly activities calendar development
- carries out pre-planned activities as scheduled
- demonstrates behavior aligned with organizational core values
- attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services, projects, and committees
- adheres to center’s practices, procedures, and policies
- accepts duties cooperatively and performs related tasks
- maintains flexibility in work schedule
- may require use of personal vehicle
