Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when warranted
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must possess tact in dealing with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the public
  • Must be knowledgeable in the Privacy Rule and comply with facility privacy policies and procedures
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Must be able to relate information concerning resident conditions
  • Ability to seek out and incorporate new methods into existing policies
  • Must participate in continuing education and inservice training

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience in an Activities Department in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility or related medical facility preferred
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions when necessary
  • Effective communication skills including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm
  • Willingness to handle residents at varying maturity levels
  • Knowledgeable in privacy practices and policies
  • Participation in continuing education and inservice training

Job Duties

  • Assist in plans and provisions of patient care by visiting residents regularly to evaluate needs
  • Document and report to the nursing department any unusual or significant findings
  • Report all reportable events immediately in accordance with policy
  • Encourage residents to take part in activities of daily living that stimulate physical, mental, social, and spiritual potential
  • Spend duty time with residents rather than with other facility staff
  • Assist with and follow through on the establishment of resident care goals within the framework of the entire therapeutic team
