Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in related fields
  • Three years of experience coordinating public events, conventions, or large-scale meetings and logistics
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Current classified City of Reno employee eligible for internal promotional opportunity
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Public Administration, Communication, or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience coordinating public events, conventions, or large-scale meetings logistics
  • Strong event coordination and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and execute events in public spaces
  • Experience managing budgets and contracts
  • Skilled in negotiating and administering agreements
  • Ability to lead and coordinate contract and City staff
  • Capable of developing and implementing event strategies
  • Experience engaging community and stakeholders
  • Proficient in managing permitting and licensing for events
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus

Job Duties

  • Manage activities and operations of all City-sponsored major and minor special events including compliance with laws and policies
  • Plan and execute events in underutilized public spaces to revitalize and boost economic impact
  • Monitor and evaluate service delivery methods and staffing levels
  • Coordinate and review work plans for contract and City staff and resolve operational problems
  • Oversee contract and City staff assigned to special events
  • Negotiate, administer, and approve special events expenditures and contracts
  • Develop and implement short and long-term goals and strategies for City special events
  • Gather community input and collaborate with citizens, businesses, and elected officials on event planning and promotion
  • Oversee annual and special events budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Manage permitting, licensing, and regulation of outside event organizations
  • Provide production assistance and coordinate City services for varied event types
  • Work with promoters on marketing and promotion efforts
  • Maintain inventory of special event materials such as signs and barricades
  • Serve as liaison with other departments and agencies and resolve sensitive issues
  • Attend professional meetings to stay abreast of industry trends
  • Review and process community special event applications
  • Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints
  • Work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Perform related duties as required
