Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of company orientation
  • Completion of food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Ability to work well with customers and stay attentive to their needs
  • Physical ability to lift and manage products up to 55 lbs depending on department
  • Ability to perform department-specific physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and fine motor movements
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety and sanitation standards
  • Effective communication skills

Job Duties

  • Provides superior customer service
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions regarding products
  • Assists them with selections
  • Prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
  • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Assists in technical areas as needed such as basic set-up and clean-up processes
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • Cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • Operates and maintains equipment properly
  • Complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • Complies with department and store operating procedures
  • Takes care of service counter customers (for deli)
  • Uses ordering system applications (for deli)
  • Performs inventory management processes as required (for deli)
  • Ensures catering orders are prepared and ready in time for customer pickup (if applicable)
  • Performs all sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
  • Serves and packages products at customer's request (for prepared foods)
  • Educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods
  • Prepackages condiments for prepared food items
  • Cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef
