Job Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements as specified by the Army National Guard

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of Basic Training
  • Successful completion of Advanced Individual Training for Food Service Specialist
  • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety regulations
  • Ability to follow Army recipes and nutritional guidelines
  • Good physical fitness to handle field kitchen operations
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and saute as prescribed by Army recipes
  • Operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
  • Plan and prepare various menus according to dietary requirements
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met in all food preparation areas
  • Manage food and supply ordering and inventory control
  • Store perishable items such as meats and poultry safely according to regulations
