Job Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements
  • Willingness to complete 10 weeks of Basic Training and nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training

Job Qualifications

  • Interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting and chemistry
  • Ability to follow detailed recipes and food preparation instructions
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Basic military training completion or willingness to complete
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills
  • Good physical stamina to perform duties
  • Ability to work in varied environments including field conditions

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and sauté as prescribed by Army recipes
  • Operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
  • Plan and prepare menus according to dietary and nutritional requirements
  • Order food and supplies efficiently
  • Store meats, poultry and other perishable items properly
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met in all working environments
