Job Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • must be at least a junior in high school or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • must meet citizenship requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Interest in cooking
  • knowledge of home economics
  • basic understanding of health and nutrition
  • proficiency in mathematics and accounting
  • familiarity with chemistry principles related to food preparation
  • ability to follow standardized recipes and dietary guidelines
  • strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam, and sauté as prescribed by Army recipes
  • operate, maintain, and clean field kitchen equipment
  • perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
  • plan and prepare menus and meals for varied group sizes
  • ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met
  • order and manage food and supply inventory
  • store meats, poultry, and other perishable items properly
