Job Requirements

  • Must be United States citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, or DACA eligible
  • Must be 18 years old at time of application
  • Must possess high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of high-level customer service experience
  • Must pass Public Safety Testing technical and typing exams with required scores
  • Must complete a detailed Personal History Statement with Public Safety Testing
  • Ability to control emotional responses under stress
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • High level of customer service and people skills
  • Ability to speak English clearly and follow instructions
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Must be able to write clearly with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Must be willing to work any shift including overtime
  • Must not meet any Automatic Disqualifying Behavior criteria
  • Must complete an online employment application with detailed work history
  • Must pass oral board examination and background investigation

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year experience providing high-level customer service
  • Ability to pass 911 Dispatcher and Communications Officer technical exam and typing test with 35 wpm and 90% accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused during emergencies
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and make sound decisions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Basic computer skills
  • United States citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident status, or DACA eligibility
  • At least 18 years old at time of application

Job Duties

  • Use telephones and radios to communicate critical information and support callers and deputies
  • Receive, prioritize, and route emergency and non-emergency law enforcement calls
  • Gather and enter required information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system
  • Assign response priorities based on the urgency of situations
  • Retrieve information from state and national databases and relay to deputies
  • Maintain required logs and event cards accurately
  • Manage multiple radio frequencies and communications concurrently
  • Communicate effectively with callers who may be upset or distressed
  • Maintain composure and professionalism during high-stress situations
  • Work any shift including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
  • After 18 months, may advance to Communications Specialist - Dispatcher with additional training
