Job Requirements
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff
- physical ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
- ability to lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- ability to follow oral and written instructions
- ability to work with students with disabilities and diverse cultural backgrounds
- certification under No Child Left Behind for Title I programs
- pass Paraprofessional Assessment Exam or equivalent
- willingness to abide by district policies including drug-free workplace
- ability to attend work regularly with or without accommodation
Job Qualifications
- Two years of related college education or an associate degree
- meet highly qualified requirements by passing the Paraprofessional Assessment Exam with a score of 455 or higher
- fluent in English and Spanish both written and verbal
- knowledge of teaching methods and instructional materials
- ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- knowledge of record keeping systems
- ability to use audio-visual equipment and office machines
- skills in supervising and managing student behavior
Job Duties
- Assist with preparation of instructional materials by using duplicating or audio-visual equipment
- read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish
- work and communicate effectively with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultural backgrounds
- assist students in understanding instructional concepts by reemphasizing teacher-directed activities
- assist teachers in implementing lesson plans in English and Spanish
- assist with correction of student work
- keep records and charts of student progress
- assist with general supervision of students inside and outside the classroom
- maintain classroom discipline
- collect and account for monies received
- supervise students during recess, lunch, before and after school
- assist with clerical duties such as filing, sorting, data collecting and organizing materials
- participate in meetings to improve skills and share information
- fulfill other related duties as assigned
- meet performance standards identified in the evaluation process
