Job Requirements

  • high school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • training in culinary arts
  • minimum five years experience as a commercial chef or in management of large-scale food production
  • supervisory experience
  • possession of valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment
  • possession of ServSafe Manager's Certification within 30 days of hire
  • possession of Maricopa County Food Handler's Card at time of hire
  • valid Arizona State Driver's License
  • ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to follow instructions

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • develops, tests, and monitors innovative recipes and menus reflecting culinary trends and National School Lunch Program guidelines
  • oversees kitchen production and food quality at school sites ensuring food safety, HACCP standards, and recipe standardization
  • implements and monitors measures to minimize food costs including meal production forecasting, ordering, inventory controls, and waste reduction
  • trains, mentors, and coaches food service staff and supervisors through workshops and hands-on instruction
  • engages students for feedback on menu development and collaborates with youth advisory committees
  • plans, organizes, and supports district and board catering events including cooking demonstrations and media events
  • interprets and applies USDA, Arizona Department of Education, and federal policies to ensure compliance with school meal programs
  • develops and delivers food safety training and monitors adherence to sanitation standards
  • works with nutrition supervisors and cafeteria managers to implement department goals and provide operational support
  • conducts workshops on meal preparation, production planning, and food presentation
  • evaluates and manages equipment needs and maintains proficiency in menu software and Microsoft applications
  • maintains open communication with staff, students, and community fostering a positive environment
  • prepares, maintains, and reviews records and supervises employees ensuring timely submission of documentation
  • attends industry conferences to stay updated on culinary and school food service trends
