Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR Card
  • ability to obtain an Oregon Food Handler's Certificate
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, grasp, talk, hear, and use hands for fine manipulation for prolonged periods
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to maintain personal cleanliness and grooming standards
  • ability to follow safety and sanitation regulations
  • ability to perform physical tasks including climbing stairs or ladders occasionally

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • prior customer service and food service experience
  • knowledge of Federal guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program
  • knowledge of cooking techniques, scaling recipes, menu and recipe analysis, and nutrition values
  • knowledge of food ingredients and common food allergies
  • understanding of food service operations sanitation and safety regulations
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • good communication skills
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to work independently and in a team environment

Job Duties

  • Prepares school meals including planning, cutting, cooking, and preparation of food items
  • prepares food for the following day
  • serves student meals according to prescribed portions
  • assists in maintaining quality and portion control of all food served
  • operates kitchen equipment including dishwasher, slicer, and mixer while maintaining sanitary specifications
  • assists in maintaining proper care of equipment and sanitation of the kitchen
  • ensures a safe and clean work area
  • shuts off, breaks down, and sanitizes designated areas and items
  • checks freezers, refrigerators, and dishwashers for proper temperature and sanitation standards
  • sets up, cleans, and stores equipment used to serve food
  • reports safety and sanitary hazards immediately to supervisor
  • maintains a high standard of personal cleanliness and proper grooming as per sanitation code
  • checks food temperatures before serving to ensure proper standards
  • follows Federal guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program and assists in ensuring compliance
  • assists with completion of logs, forms, and paperwork
  • assists in taking inventory, receiving and verifying supply deliveries, and rotating stock
