Other

Urban Roots Brewing & Smokehouse is an independent craft brewery and smokehouse located in Sacramento, California. Established in 2018 by co-founders Rob Archie and Peter Hoey, it has quickly become a beloved destination for locals and visitors seeking a unique dining experience.

The establishment combines exceptional beer with mouthwatering barbecue, offering an inviting atmosphere with a 3,300-square-foot shaded patio providing ample seating. Inside, a vibrant color scheme and hip murals create a lively ambiance appealing to a diverse clientele.

Beer Selection

Urban Roots Brewery is renowned for its rotating lineup of house-made beers poured from 48 tap handles. Notable offerings include saisons like "Tomorrow’s Verse" and hoppy IPAs such as "Like Riding a Bike," which won gold at the 2018 California State Fair.

For those looking to enjoy their favorite brews at home, crowlers—32 oz. cans filled with draft beer—are available for purchase.

Food Menu

The menu showcases a variety of smoked meats such as brisket, pork, and turkey, all slow-smoked over cherry and oak logs in a custom 6-ton smoker. Meats are served without sauce to preserve natural flavors, with house-made sauces offered as optional condiments.

Side dishes include Southern-inspired favorites like whipped yams with marshmallows and aged white cheddar, as well as black pepper grits made from recipes passed down from the chef's Louisiana grandparents.

Expansion and Locations

In addition to the main brewery and smokehouse, Urban Roots reopened The Shack in East Sacramento in August 2022, continuing the tradition of the neighborhood favorite that had served the community for 17 years before closing.
