About Uno Pizzeria & Grill
Uno Pizzeria & Grill, established in 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, is renowned for creating the original Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Founded by Ike Sewell and Ric Riccardo, the restaurant introduced a unique pizza with a tall crust filled with layers of cheese, chunky tomato sauce, and various toppings.
This innovative approach quickly gained popularity, leading to the opening of Pizzeria Due in 1955, located just a block away from the original Uno.
Over the decades, Uno Pizzeria & Grill has expanded its menu to include a variety of dishes beyond its signature deep-dish pizza. The menu features thin-crust pizzas, pasta dishes, burgers, sandwiches, and salads, catering to a wide range of tastes.
For instance, the "Chicago Meat Market" pizza is a hearty option with layers of sausage, meatballs, pepperoni, mozzarella, chunky tomato sauce, and romano cheese. Additionally, the "Rattlesnake Pasta" offers a spicy twist with grilled chicken and cavatappi pasta tossed in a spicy asiago cream sauce with cheddar and jalapeños.
In recent years, Uno Pizzeria & Grill has focused on enhancing its dining experience by updating restaurant interiors and expanding its beverage offerings. The company has also embraced technology by offering online ordering and delivery services, making it more convenient for customers to enjoy their favorite dishes at home.
As of August 2025, Uno Pizzeria & Grill operates approximately 40 locations across the United States, including cities like Chicago, IL; Springfield, MA; Orlando, FL; Warwick, RI; and New York, NY. The company continues to uphold its legacy as the birthplace of Chicago deep-dish pizza while adapting to modern dining preferences.
