The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public land-grant research university located in Paradise, Nevada, approximately 1.6 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. Established in 1957, UNLV has grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of academic programs and services.
Academic Programs and Degrees
UNLV provides 78 majors and 84 minors at the undergraduate level, along with more than 197 graduate degree and certificate programs. The university is home to professional schools, including the William S. Boyd School of Law, the only law school in Nevada, and the UNLV School of Dental Medicine, the state's sole dental school.
The UNLV School of Medicine is affiliated with the university, offering medical education and training.
Research and Facilities
UNLV is committed to research and innovation, with expenditures totaling $37 million in the 2017–2018 fiscal year. The university's Lied Library, opened in 2001, is the largest building on campus, housing over one million volumes and providing access to more than 20,000 online and print journals.
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, established in 1967, offers exhibitions and collections that reflect the cultural diversity of the region.
Student Support Services
UNLV offers a variety of resources to support student success, including academic advising, tutoring, and career services. The UNLV Libraries support students' development of information literacy, and the Writing Center offers free one-on-one writing tutoring.
The university also provides health, wellness, and recreation programs, including fitness and recreation programs, the Student Health Center, and health and wellness workshops.
Athletics and Campus Life
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team competes in the NCAA Division I Mountain West Conference. The Thomas & Mack Center, located on campus, serves as the home arena for the team and hosts various events.
The university's campus life includes student organizations, leadership programs, cultural experiences, intramural sports, and community service opportunities.
Locations
UNLV's main campus is situated in Paradise, Nevada, with additional facilities in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada. The Shadow Lane Campus, located just east of the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, houses the School of Dental Medicine.
