The University of Maine (UMaine), established in 1865, is a public land-grant research university located in Orono, Maine. Academic Programs and Research
UMaine provides over 90 undergraduate majors across five colleges: the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Engineering, the Honors College, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Earth, Life, and Health Sciences.

Campus and Facilities
The 660-acre campus in Orono features 37 academic buildings, 30 administrative buildings, 18 residence halls, and numerous laboratories and sports facilities.
Notable facilities include the Raymond H. Fogler Library, which houses over a million volumes, and the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, a leader in composite materials research.
Athletics
UMaine's athletic teams, known as the Black Bears, compete in NCAA Division I. The university sponsors 17 teams, including men's and women's ice hockey, football, and basketball.
The men's ice hockey team has secured two national championships, in 1993 and 1999.
Community Engagement
UMaine is dedicated to community service and outreach, offering programs like the "Finish Strong" initiative, which encourages individuals with partial college degrees to complete their education.
This program provides scholarships and support to help students return to college and advance their careers.
