The University of Delaware (UD) is a privately governed, state-assisted land-grant research university located in Newark, Delaware. Established in 1743, UD has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of academic programs and services.

The university's athletic teams, known as the Fightin' Blue Hens, compete in NCAA Division I sports, including football, basketball, and lacrosse.

In 2016, the women's field hockey team won the NCAA Division I championship, defeating North Carolina 3–2.
