About UMOS
UMOS, established in 1965, is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to enhancing employment, educational, health, and housing opportunities for underserved populations. Originally formed to address the needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers, UMOS has broadened its services to assist individuals from all ethnic, racial, and linguistic backgrounds striving for a better life.
Child Development Services
UMOS offers comprehensive early childhood care and education programs tailored to the unique needs of migrant and seasonal farmworker families. These initiatives facilitate school readiness, allowing parents to focus on securing stable employment while ensuring a nurturing learning environment for their children.
Social Services
The organization's social services include a range of holistic programs designed to support individuals and families in various aspects of their lives:
- Anti-Human Trafficking: A Wisconsin-based program focused on identifying and protecting victims of labor and sex trafficking, and improving service availability for survivors.
- Agricultural Worker Housing: Provision of temporary and permanent housing solutions for agricultural workers in Minnesota and Wisconsin, addressing affordable housing shortages.
- Food Pantry: Serving residents in Milwaukee ZIP codes 53207 and 53221, as well as first-time visitors, offering food boxes with fresh produce, bread, milk, meats, and non-perishable items.
- Health Promotions: Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, providing safe sex supplies, STD testing and prevention, opioid harm reduction, and tobacco and nicotine use prevention within the Latino community.
- Latina Resource Center (LRC): Offering comprehensive supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, serving all genders, races, ethnicities, and ages in Wisconsin.
