About U.S. Space & Rocket Center

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC), located in Huntsville, Alabama, is the world's largest spaceflight museum. It houses over 1,500 artifacts that chronicle the history and future of human space exploration. Established in 1965 and opened in 1970, the center serves as the Official Visitor Center for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

Exhibits and Artifacts

The USSRC's extensive collection includes significant artifacts such as the National Historic Landmark Saturn V Moon Rocket, the only full-stack space shuttle display named Pathfinder, the Apollo 16 Command Module, the Skylab Orbital Workshop, and an Apollo 12 Moon Rock.

These exhibits offer visitors a comprehensive understanding of the milestones in space exploration.

Educational Programs

A cornerstone of the USSRC is its educational programs, notably Space Camp®, which has been inspiring future scientists, engineers, and astronauts since 1982. Utilizing astronaut training techniques, Space Camp engages trainees in real-world applications of STEM subjects.

The program operates year-round and is available for students aged 9 to 18, with additional programs for trainees who are blind or visually impaired and deaf or hard of hearing. It also offers programs for adults, educators, corporate groups, and families, accommodating children as young as seven.

Visitor Experience

Visitors can engage with interactive exhibits and simulators that replicate astronaut training experiences, such as the Moon Shot and G-Force simulators. The INTUITIVE® Planetarium provides immersive shows in a 67-foot dome theater.

The National Geographic Theater presents documentary films highlighting scientific discoveries. Additionally, the USSRC offers bus tours of the nearby Marshall Space Flight Center, providing insights into NASA's ongoing missions and research.
