The Roland Center, also known as the San Gabriel Valley Training Center, is a nonprofit organization based in La Puente, California. It is dedicated to empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Established in 1961 by Shirley and Ganzer Roland—parents of a son with cerebral palsy—the center was founded to provide meaningful alternatives to institutionalization.

The goal is to enable individuals with IDD to live, work, and thrive within their communities.

Mission and Services

The center's mission is to provide and promote opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to live, work, and interact in the community, helping them achieve their personal best.

To fulfill this mission, The Roland Center offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Community Employment Services: Focused on job development and employment supports, assisting individuals in finding and maintaining meaningful community employment.
  • Community Integration Services: Designed to help individuals engage in community activities and build social connections, promoting inclusion and active participation.
  • Dementia Services: The first in the world to be accredited by CARF International for dementia services tailored to individuals with IDD, providing specialized care and support.

Leadership

In 2023, The Roland Center appointed Dr. Thomas Buckley, a nationally renowned expert in developmental disabilities, as its Executive Director.

Dr. Buckley brings extensive experience and is committed to enhancing services and expanding the center's community impact.

The Roland Center operates primarily from its main location at 400 South Covina Boulevard, La Puente, CA 91746.

The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
