Established on April 25, 2023, it brings the relaxed ambiance of Northern California to Chicago, offering a unique dining experience. The restaurant combines fresh ingredients, warm hospitality, and an extensive selection of California wines.
Culinary Offerings
The menu celebrates comfort food favorites, crafted with simplicity and high-quality ingredients. Starters include Yellowfin Tuna Tostada with salsa macha, crispy carrot, and avocado, and wood and charcoal roasted Heirloom Artichoke with California olive oil and pepperoncini aioli.
Salads such as the Napa Caesar combine romaine, Napa cabbage, and radicchio tossed with crispy sourdough breadcrumbs and a light dressing. Main courses range from Fried Chicken with pepperoncini and grain mustard potato salad to Coal Roasted Faroe Island Salmon glazed with smoky BBQ sauce, served with stone-ground grits made with 26-month-aged Gouda.
Vegetarian options include Housemade Pappardelle tossed in a sauce of confit eggplant and slow-roasted mushrooms with rich Bolognese-style flavors.
Wine Selection
The Oakville Grill & Cellar features one of the largest California wine lists in Chicago, boasting over 750 wines hand-selected by Wine Director Richard Hanauer and his team. The collection covers renowned regions such as Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Santa Ynez, and Paso Robles.
The diverse range includes full-bodied reds, light whites, sparkling wines, and more, ensuring perfect pairings for every dish.
The Cellar Door
For an intimate experience, "The Cellar Door" is a private six-seat tasting room partnering with a different California winery each month. This space emulates the vineyard's current tasting menu and offers select pours from the featured winery.
A chef-curated cheese and salumi pairing enhances the tasting experience.
Design and Ambiance
The restaurant's design draws inspiration from the rustic charm of Northern California wineries. Elements include natural wood textures, stone accents, and abundant greenery, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The main dining area features a lively bar, cozy banquettes, and communal tables. The second floor has an all-seasons patio with an indoor-outdoor bar and seating for 80 guests. This space also serves as a private dining area for events and gatherings.
