About THE MINIKAHDA CLUB
The Minikahda Club, established in 1898, is a private country club located in southwest Minneapolis, Minnesota. As the oldest country club west of the Mississippi River, it offers a rich history and a premier recreational experience.
The club's name, "Minikahda," is derived from the Dakota language, meaning "by the side of the water". This reflects its picturesque location along the western shore of Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun). The clubhouse, situated atop a hill, provides expansive views of the lake and the Minneapolis skyline.
Golf Course
At the heart of The Minikahda Club is its historic 18-hole golf course, originally designed by Donald Ross in 1920. The course has hosted several prestigious tournaments, including the U.S. Open in 1916, the U.S. Amateur in 1927, and the Walker Cup in 1957.
In 2018, the club embarked on a comprehensive restoration project to re-grass the course and enhance its facilities. This ensures it remains among the top courses in the state.
