About The Children's Place
The Children's Place is a leading specialty retailer of children's apparel and accessories, offering a wide range of products for newborns to pre-teens. Established in 1969 by David Pulver and Clinton Clark in Hartford, Connecticut, the company initially sold toys, apparel, and accessories before focusing on children's clothing due to its significant growth potential.
By the early 1980s, The Children's Place had repositioned itself as a specialty retailer catering to children's apparel. It offers both private label merchandise and branded products. Over the years, the company has expanded its brand portfolio to include Gymboree, Sugar & Jade, and PJ Place, each targeting different age groups and styles.
In 2019, The Children's Place acquired the rights to the Gymboree brand, reintroducing it in early 2020 with colorful designs that celebrate childhood. In late 2021, the Sugar & Jade brand was launched, focusing on tween girls' individuality, and in late 2022, the PJ Place brand was introduced as a one-stop pajama destination for all ages, including adults.
The Children's Place operates over 500 stores across North America, including the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It also sells products through online outlets and international franchise partners in 15 countries. The product line includes tops, skirts, dresses, jackets, shoes, bottoms, sleepwear, and backpacks.
In February 2024, Saudi Arabia's Mithaq Capital acquired a majority stake in The Children's Place, providing financial support to stabilize the company's operations.
