About Tennessee Board of Regents
The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is the governing body for the state's public community and technical colleges. It comprises 13 community colleges and 24 Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCATs). Established in 1972, TBR serves as the largest system of public higher education in Tennessee.
The system enrolls nearly 120,000 students annually, offering a diverse range of academic and technical programs designed to meet the evolving needs of students and the workforce.
Mission and Academic Programs
TBR's mission is to enhance the education and skill levels of Tennesseans through quality programs and services.
The system's community colleges provide two-year degrees and technical certificates. Meanwhile, TCATs focus on technical certificates and diplomas, equipping students with practical skills for various industries.
Financial Support for Students
To support students financially, TBR administers several scholarship and grant programs:
- The Tennessee Promise, a "last dollar" scholarship and mentoring program, covers tuition and mandatory fees for recent high school graduates.
- Tennessee Reconnect offers similar support for adult learners seeking to complete a college degree or certificate.
- The Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Program provides assistance to recent high school graduates.
- The Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grants offer up to $2,000 annually for full-time enrollment in technical colleges.

TBR's central office is located in Nashville, Tennessee.
The system's 37 institutions are spread across the state, ensuring access to higher education in nearly all of Tennessee's 95 counties.
