About Tavern on Rush
Tavern on Rush was a renowned upscale steakhouse located in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. Established in April 1998, it quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant was known for its prime aged steaks, fresh seafood, and classic American fare.
Over the years, Tavern on Rush garnered a loyal clientele, including celebrities and dignitaries, who frequented its elegant dining rooms and lively bar scene. The inviting atmosphere and exceptional service contributed to its status as a cornerstone of Chicago's dining scene.
In August 2022, the restaurant announced it would close permanently on January 1, 2023, due to the landlord's decision not to renew the lease. This marked the end of an era for the establishment, which had been a staple in the Gold Coast for nearly 25 years.
After a two-year hiatus, Tavern on Rush reopened in a new location within the Thompson Chicago hotel at 1015 N. Rush Street on September 30, 2024. The revamped 16,000-square-foot space features a main dining room, cocktail lounge, upscale bar, expansive outdoor patio, and private event spaces.
The design honors the restaurant's rich legacy with nostalgic photographs and the refurbished original sign. The new location continues to offer its signature menu of USDA prime aged steaks, fresh seafood, and unique daily specials.
The restaurant operates daily, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with brunch on weekends. It also provides room service and catering for the hotel.
