Overview
Spokane County Fire District 8 (SCFD8) is a dedicated emergency services provider serving approximately 23,917 residents across a 110-square-mile area in southern Spokane County, Washington.
Established in 1947, the district has a rich history of protecting, serving, and educating the community.
Services Offered
- Fire Suppression: SCFD8 responds to fires, working to extinguish them and prevent further damage.
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS): The district provides advanced life support, including paramedic services, to address medical emergencies. In 2022, EMS responses accounted for over 80% of the district's 4,248 service calls.
- Fire Prevention and Public Education: SCFD8 offers programs to educate the community on fire safety, conducts inspections, and enforces fire codes to prevent incidents.
- Support Services: The district manages administrative functions, including finance, human resources, and public information, to ensure efficient operations.
Facilities
SCFD8 operates four fire stations strategically located to serve the community:
- Station 81 (Moran): Located at 6117 S. Palouse Highway, this station replaced the original station at 57th and Regal in 2002.
- Station 82 (Valleyford): Situated at 12100 E. Palouse Highway, this station serves as the district's headquarters and dispatch center.
- Station 84 (Ponderosa): Located on Bates Road in the Ponderosa neighborhood, this station was constructed in 1974.
- Station 85 (Saltese): Found on Linke Road in the Saltese area, this station was built in 1990.
Recent Developments
In April 2025, SCFD8 proposed a levy lid lift to restore the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levy to the full 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The additional funding aims to hire two new paramedics, ensuring 24/7 paramedic coverage at all four stations, and to purchase new equipment, including cardiac monitors and extrication tools.
