About Roots and Revelry
Roots & Revelry was a distinguished dining establishment located in the historic Thomas Jefferson Tower in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. Established in 2017 by Chef Brandon Cain, renowned for his work at Saw's Soul Kitchen and Post Office Pies in Avondale, the restaurant quickly became a beloved spot for both locals and visitors.
The restaurant's culinary philosophy centered on modernizing fine dining by infusing Southern classics with international influences. This approach resulted in a menu that was both innovative and comforting, featuring dishes such as pork belly PB&J, Korean hot chicken, and grilled octopus.
The use of locally sourced ingredients ensured that the offerings were fresh and seasonally appropriate.
Location and Atmosphere
Roots & Revelry was housed on the second floor of the Thomas Jefferson Tower, a 19-story historic building that added a unique charm to the dining experience.
The venue boasted high ceilings, elegant décor, and an inviting atmosphere, making it suitable for both casual brunches and special evening events.
The restaurant also offered outdoor seating, allowing patrons to enjoy their meals al fresco when the weather permitted.
Menu Highlights
In addition to its dinner service, Roots & Revelry was known for its weekend brunch offerings. The brunch menu featured a mix of traditional favorites and inventive dishes, such as crab cake benedict and churro French toast.
The full bar complemented the dining experience with a selection of craft cocktails, mimosas, and other beverages.
Accolades and Legacy
The restaurant's commitment to excellence was reflected in its accolades, including being named Birmingham's Best New Restaurant in 2017.
Its energetic tribute to American and French cuisine, combined with a high-energy dining room, made it a standout in Birmingham's culinary scene.
The menu, which boasted local and seasonal ingredients from farms throughout Alabama, was ever-changing to ensure the freshest products were available.
Tragically, in November 2024, the restaurant's owner, Robert Lynn, passed away, leading to the closure of Roots & Revelry. Despite its closure, the establishment left a lasting impact on Birmingham's dining landscape.
It is remembered for its innovative cuisine, elegant setting, and significant contributions to the local food culture.
