About Rangeview Library District (Anythink)
Anythink Libraries, formerly known as Rangeview Library District, is a progressive public library system serving the residents of Adams County, Colorado. Established in 1953 as the Adams County Public Library, it became an independent entity in January 2005. It operates under a five-member Library Board of Trustees appointed by the Adams County Commissioners.
The district comprises seven branches located in Bennett, Brighton, Commerce City, Thornton, and the Perl Mack neighborhood in Denver. Additionally, Anythink Libraries offers outreach services through its Bookmobile, Anythink in Motion, which visits area neighborhoods and community stops.
Rebranding and Innovation
In September 2009, the library system rebranded as Anythink, introducing a new logo and the tagline, “A Revolution of Rangeview Libraries.” This rebranding included renaming community libraries to Anythink libraries and adopting unique staff titles like “Wrangler,” “Concierge,” and “Guide” to enhance the customer experience.
Anythink Libraries is renowned for its customer-centric innovations, such as the WordThink system—a word-based classification method that replaces the traditional Dewey Decimal system. This reorganization simplifies categories into accessible sections like history and science, making browsing easier and more intuitive for patrons.
Commitment to Sustainability
The library district places a strong emphasis on sustainability. Notably, Anythink Brighton, which opened in September 2009, is recognized as the first carbon-negative library in the United States. It operates without emitting pollutants by utilizing renewable energy and carbon credits, setting an example for eco-friendly public facilities.
Programs and Services
Anythink Libraries offers diverse programs designed for all ages. The mySummer program delivers interactive events and entertainment during the summer months.
Two makerspaces enhance creative learning:
- The Studio at Anythink Wright Farms serves as a digital learning lab
- The Studio at Anythink Brighton is the district's first makerspace
Community Development
In partnership with the City of Thornton, Anythink is developing a new library within the Thornton Community Center project. This future facility will be 40,000 square feet in total, with about 10,000 square feet dedicated to the Anythink library.
It will feature shared spaces including a coffee lounge, a teen area, and a makerspace tailored for community engagement.
