About Palisades Tahoe

Palisades Tahoe, formerly known as Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, is a premier ski resort located in Olympic Valley, California, within the Sierra Nevada range. Established in 1949, the resort has a rich history, notably hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics, which significantly elevated its international profile.

The resort spans approximately 6,000 skiable acres across eight peaks, making it the largest ski area in California. It offers a diverse range of terrain suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders.

The mountain is equipped with 30 lifts, including the only funitel in the United States, and features two terrain parks. With an average annual snowfall of 400 inches, Palisades Tahoe provides a reliable and extensive winter season.

In 2021, the resort underwent a significant rebranding, changing its name from Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows to Palisades Tahoe. This decision was made to eliminate the use of the term "squaw," which is considered offensive by many Native Americans.

The Washoe Tribe, indigenous to the region, commended the resort for this change and has since collaborated with Palisades Tahoe to educate visitors about tribal culture.

Summer Activities

Palisades Tahoe is also known for its vibrant summer activities. Visitors can take scenic Aerial Tram rides to High Camp, offering panoramic views of Lake Tahoe.

At High Camp, guests can enjoy the Olympic Museum, the Washoe Display, roller skating, and more. The resort also hosts various events and offers lodging options, including condominium-style suites with private balconies and full kitchens.
