Outstanding in the Field

Outstanding in the Field is a unique culinary organization that reimagines the traditional dining experience by bringing the restaurant directly to the source of its ingredients. Founded in 1999 by artist and chef Jim Denevan, the organization has hosted outdoor dining events in all 50 U.S. states and 24 countries worldwide.

The concept centers around setting up a long, linen-draped table in diverse and often unexpected locations, such as fields, orchards, vineyards, beaches, and city streets. Each event features a communal meal prepared by local chefs, utilizing ingredients sourced directly from the surrounding area.

This approach aims to reconnect diners with the origins of their food and celebrate the hardworking individuals—farmers, fishermen, cheesemakers, vintners, and more—who contribute to the culinary landscape.

Since its inception, Outstanding in the Field has collaborated with a diverse array of chefs and culinary artisans, including internationally renowned figures like Francis Mallmann, Virgilio Martínez, Gaggan, and Rodolfo Guzmán, as well as Michelin-starred chefs such as Alex Hong, Christophe Ledru, and Drew Deckman.

These collaborations have taken place in various breathtaking settings, such as:

• The base of Mount Fuji in Japan
• A rooftop farm in Brooklyn

In addition to its public events, the organization offers private event services, providing customized dining experiences for weddings, corporate gatherings, and other special occasions.
