About Oklahoma City Zoo
The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, located in Oklahoma City's Adventure District, is a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Spanning 130 acres, the zoo is home to over 2,000 animals representing more than 500 species.
Annually, it attracts over a million visitors, offering a diverse array of exhibits and experiences.
Exhibits and Attractions
- Expedition Africa: Opened in 2024, this expansive 12-acre exhibit is the largest habitat expansion in the zoo's history. It features a state-of-the-art giraffe barn, a savanna area where multiple species mingle, and the renovated Love's Pachyderm Building, with animal habitats and a large event space.
- Sanctuary Asia: This 9.5-acre Asian-themed section houses the zoo's herd of Asian elephants, including three spacious outdoor yards, pools, a waterfall, shade structures, and a barn with views from a raised boardwalk.
- Children's Zoo: Opened in 2010, this 2.5-acre area allows children to explore, touch, and immerse themselves in a natural environment that stimulates imagination and fosters appreciation for nature.
- Oklahoma Trails: Features natural habitats and over 100 Oklahoma native species, providing visitors with a glimpse into the state's wildlife diversity.
- Cat Forest / Lion Overlook: A 4.2-acre habitat featuring lions, tigers, snow leopards, and various wild cats.
- Great EscAPE: A 6-acre exhibit with gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees in a tropical forest setting.
- Aquatics: Home to over 1,500 marine creatures from around the world.
- Butterfly Garden: A 20,000-square-foot exhibit with over 15,000 plants designed to attract butterflies.
- Island Life: Exhibits with species from the Caribbean, Madagascar, and the Philippines, including snakes, birds, turtles, frogs, and reptiles.
- Sea Lion Show: A popular performance featuring sea lions and birds.
- Zoo Amphitheatre: Hosts various outdoor performances and music events.
Visitor Information
The Oklahoma City Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing only on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Admission prices include:
- Adult Ticket (ages 12-64): $20
- Child Ticket (ages 3-11): $17
- Senior Ticket (ages 65 and older): $17
- Children two and under receive free admission, though a ticket is required for entry.
Various discounts are available, including military discounts and special rates for groups of 15 or more.
