The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America, established in 1934 to provide decent and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
Serving approximately 528,105 residents, NYCHA manages 177,569 apartments across 2,411 buildings in 335 public housing and Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) developments throughout New York City's five boroughs.
Section 8 Leased Housing Program
In addition to public housing, NYCHA administers the Section 8 Leased Housing Program, offering rental assistance to over 235,000 individuals in private homes.
This program is the largest of its kind in the United States, encompassing more than 25,000 property owners and over 85,000 units.
