News Cafe

News Cafe is a renowned restaurant, bar, and newsstand located in the heart of Miami Beach's historic Art Deco district. Established in 1989 by restaurateur Mark Soyka and real estate developer Tony Goldman, it quickly became a cornerstone of the South Beach community. It attracts both locals and tourists.

The establishment is particularly famous for being a favorite spot of fashion icon Gianni Versace, who frequented the café daily for his morning coffee and newspaper.

Over the years, News Cafe has undergone several transformations, adapting to the evolving tastes of its clientele while maintaining its classic charm. In early 2021, the café closed its doors due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in March 2023, it reopened under new ownership by Vida & Estilo Restaurant Group, with an updated design and a Mediterranean-American menu that pays homage to its iconic past.

Menu Highlights

The menu at News Cafe features a blend of classic dishes and new offerings. Signature items include Tony’s tomato soup, tuna melt, Aegean-Mediterranean plate, and eggs Benedict.

New additions include piña colada pancakes with grilled pineapple and coconut syrup, and a burger with red wine demi sauce, smoked gouda, and caramelized onions. The extensive beverage list includes:

Ambience and Décor

Despite the updates, News Cafe retains much of its original charm. The iconic green awning with the "News Cafe" logo welcomes guests into the restaurant, while the namesake newsstand offers a selection of local, national, and international newspapers.

Framed portraits of 1990s icons like Versace and Tony Goldman adorn the walls, along with vintage images of News Cafe’s early years.

Operating Hours and Locations

The café operates daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 800 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
