About NASCAR
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the premier sanctioning body for stock car racing in the United States. It oversees a diverse array of racing series and events that captivate motorsports enthusiasts worldwide.
Established in 1948 by Bill France Sr., NASCAR has grown into a multifaceted organization that not only sanctions races but also owns and operates several major motorsports entertainment facilities.
Sanctioned Racing Series
NASCAR's portfolio includes three national series:
- NASCAR Cup Series™: The flagship series featuring the sport's top drivers competing on a variety of tracks across the nation.
- NASCAR Xfinity Series™: A developmental series that serves as a proving ground for emerging talent, featuring up-and-coming drivers alongside seasoned competitors.
- NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series™: Showcasing modified pickup trucks, this series offers a unique racing experience with its own set of challenges and fan base.
In addition, NASCAR sanctions several international series, expanding its global footprint and fostering international competition.
Regional and Grassroots Series
NASCAR supports regional and grassroots racing through several key series:
- ARCA Menards Series: Bridging the gap between local short tracks and national competition.
- NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour: Showcasing modified stock cars, primarily in the northeastern United States.
- NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series: The foundation of NASCAR's racing pyramid, featuring local tracks across the country.
Ownership of Motorsports Facilities
NASCAR owns and operates 16 major motorsports entertainment facilities, including iconic venues such as Daytona International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.
These facilities are integral to NASCAR's operations, providing venues for races, fan engagement, and various motorsports-related events.
International Motor Sports Association (IMSA)
NASCAR owns the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), which governs the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This is the premier U.S. sports car championship, featuring a diverse range of manufacturers and teams competing on road courses across North America.
Media and Broadcasting
NASCAR's media assets include Motor Racing Network, Racing Electronics, and ONE DAYTONA, a mixed-use development adjacent to Daytona International Speedway.
These entities play a crucial role in broadcasting, fan engagement, and the promotion of the sport.
Global Presence
NASCAR sanctions more than 1,200 races annually in over 30 U.S. states, as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. This extensive reach highlights its commitment to growing the sport and engaging fans worldwide.
Headquarters and Offices
NASCAR's main headquarters are in Daytona Beach, Florida. The organization also maintains offices in several North American cities, including:

In 2022, NASCAR began construction on a new state-of-the-art facility in Concord, North Carolina, to house its production operations, expected to be operational by the 2024 season.
