The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health is the state's only comprehensive academic health system. It is dedicated to preserving and optimizing human life through education, research, and patient care. Founded in 1824 in Charleston, MUSC comprises six colleges: Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

MUSC trains over 3,200 students annually. In fiscal year 2023, it led the state in research funding, securing more than $300 million. The institution continues to be a leader in federal and National Institutes of Health funding.

MUSC Health operates an integrated healthcare system that includes a downtown Charleston campus with five unique hospitals:
