About Memphis Shelby County Schools
Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is the largest public school district in Tennessee and the 23rd largest in the United States, serving over 110,500 students across more than 214 schools.

Rebranding and Initiative
In January 2022, the Shelby County Board of Education voted to rebrand the district as Memphis-Shelby County Schools, aligning the district's identity with the majority of its student base residing within Memphis city limits.
This rebranding is part of the district's broader "Reimagining 901" initiative, which includes building new schools, closing underutilized ones, and expanding existing facilities to better serve the community.
Educational Programs
MSCS offers a comprehensive range of educational programs from Pre-K through 12th grade, including specialized programs such as the Optional Schools program, which consists of 45 theme-based magnet schools.
