Meijer is a privately-owned, family-operated retailer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Established in 1934 by Hendrik Meijer, the company has grown from a small grocery store into a leading supercenter chain in the Midwest.

Meijer pioneered the supercenter concept in 1962 with the opening of "Thrifty Acres" in Grand Rapids, combining groceries and general merchandise under one roof.
