Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is a leading integrated downstream and midstream energy company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. Established in 1887, MPC operates the nation's largest refining system, with approximately 3 million barrels per calendar day of crude oil refining capacity across 13 refineries.

Operations Overview

The company's operations are organized into three primary segments:

• Refining & Marketing: MPC refines crude oil and other feedstocks at refineries in the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, and West Coast regions of the US. The refined products include transportation fuels, heavy fuel oil, asphalt, propane, and petrochemicals.
• These products are distributed through transportation, storage, distribution, and marketing services to wholesale customers in the US and internationally.
• MPC operates approximately 7,740 branded locations under the Marathon and ARCO brands, including about 1,160 direct dealer locations primarily in California.

• Midstream: Through its master limited partnership, MPLX LP, MPC owns and operates gathering, processing, and fractionation assets, as well as crude oil and light product transportation and logistics infrastructure.
• MPLX manages approximately 40 million barrels of terminal storage capacity and 12.4 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas processing capacity.

• Renewable Fuels: MPC is committed to reducing carbon emissions intensity while meeting growing energy needs.
• The Renewable Fuels portfolio includes nine facilities that produced approximately 600 million gallons of renewable fuels in 2024.
• These facilities process renewable feedstocks into renewable diesel, marketed through the Midstream segment and third parties.

Community Involvement

In addition to its operations, MPC actively participates in community initiatives. In June 2025, the company provided a $100,000 grant to help bridge the digital divide in El Paso, Texas.
