The Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC) is a local public agency dedicated to serving the community through a comprehensive range of federal, state, and locally funded programs. Established in 1964 by Knox County and the City of Knoxville, CAC's mission is to promote family self-sufficiency and independent living by delivering essential services and fostering partnerships at all levels.

CAC offers a diverse array of programs designed to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families in Knoxville and Knox County. Key services include:

• AmeriCorps: A national service program placing full-time members in organizations to address environmental and social needs like education and land improvement.
• Beardsley Community Farm: A 4-acre urban farm with community gardens throughout Knox County, providing fresh produce and agricultural education.
• Utility Assistance: Helps low-income households manage and pay utility bills, ensuring access to essential services.
• Head Start: Early childhood education preparing children for school success through comprehensive services.
• Home Repair & Weatherization: Improves the safety and energy efficiency of homes for low-income residents.
• Nutrition Services: Includes Mobile Meals delivering nutritious meals to homebound seniors and wellness checks.
• Office on Aging: Supports seniors with volunteer opportunities, transportation, and social activities.
• Social Services: Assists with access to food, housing, and healthcare to promote self-sufficiency.
• Transportation: Provides rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other essential activities.
• VITA / Tax Preparation: Free tax services for low-to-moderate-income individuals to receive eligible credits and refunds.

In addition to these programs, CAC operates several neighborhood centers across Knoxville and Knox County, including the West Neighborhood Center, East Neighborhood Center, and the O'Connor Senior Center.
