Jo-Ann Stores, LLC, commonly known as Jo-Ann Fabrics, was a prominent American specialty retailer specializing in fabrics and craft supplies. Founded in 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, the company expanded to over 800 locations across 49 states, making it the nation's largest fabric and craft retailer.

Jo-Ann offered a wide range of products catering to various crafting needs, including sewing materials, scrapbooking supplies, artificial flowers, home accents, and seasonal items. These products were marketed under various national and company-owned brands such as Jo-Ann Sensations, Jo-Ann Fabric, and Craft.

Financial Challenges and Closure

In early 2025, Jo-Ann faced significant financial challenges, leading to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in January 2025. Despite efforts to restructure, the company was unable to secure a buyer and subsequently began the process of liquidating all its stores.

By the end of May 2025, all Jo-Ann locations had permanently closed, resulting in the loss of approximately 19,000 jobs.

Acquisition of Intellectual Property

Following Jo-Ann's closure, arts and crafts retailer Michaels acquired Jo-Ann's intellectual property and private labels, including brands like Big Twist yarn. Michaels expanded its product offerings to include these new additions, aiming to serve former Jo-Ann customers.

Jo-Ann's headquarters were located in Hudson, Ohio.

Prior to its closure, the company operated stores in various cities across the United States, including Houston, Texas, where nine locations were among those closed.
