The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) is a pivotal organization responsible for operating and managing two key airports in Jackson, Mississippi: Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) and Hawkins Field Airport (HKS).

Established to oversee regional aviation infrastructure, JMAA plays a crucial role in facilitating commercial and general aviation services. This contributes significantly to the economic development and connectivity of the Jackson metropolitan area.

Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN)

Located approximately six miles east of downtown Jackson, JAN is the busiest airport in Mississippi. It serves as a hub for several major airlines offering flights to numerous domestic and international destinations. This connects travelers to global hubs and supports the state's transportation needs.

Situated in northwest Jackson, Hawkins Field primarily serves general aviation and military operations. It is home to the Mississippi Army National Guard's 185th Aviation Brigade. The airport also supports emergency medical air transporters and the Civil Air Patrol.

This facility is integral to the region's emergency response capabilities and supports various activities beyond commercial air travel.

Leadership and Funding Initiatives

Under CEO Rosa M. Beckett, appointed in May 2023, JMAA has undertaken several initiatives to enhance airport infrastructure and services.

The improvements aim to bolster safety, efficiency, and compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.

In February 2024, JMAA announced an $8 million grant from the U.S. Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for upgrading essential equipment at JAN, modernizing airport facilities, and improving traveler experience.

Partnerships and Technological Advances

JMAA has partnered with Mississippi State University's Raspet Flight Research Laboratory to advance aviation technology.
